ISLAMABAD: The Senate voted on Friday to postpone the February 8 elections since the country’s environment is not suitable to the activity.
With a majority vote, the House approved Dilawar Khan’s resolution. Senator Afnan Khan voted against the resolution.
When the resolution was tabled, fourteen members of the upper chamber were present. Senator Dilawar stated in support of his proposal that many political leaders had received threats.
“We honor the Supreme Court order,” he stated. “Our soldiers are being killed, and we are being told to hold elections,” he insisted.
Senator Hidayatullah later told the house that Baloch and Pakhtun people are being killed. Terrorism, according to Senator Manzoor Ahmad Kakar, is resurfacing in the country. If Pakistan existed, elections would be held, he asserted.
“We have seen deaths, a police officer was killed in my constituency the other day,” Kakar said. “This is a valid resolution, and we second it,” he added. Senator Afnan stated that elections were held in the winter in both 2008 and 1997.
Several explosions occurred during the month of the elections. The Muslim League-Q Senator Kamil Ali Agha supported the resolution as well.
