Islamabad: As part of the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) efforts to reach out to diaspora communities, officials visited Bradford to meet British-Pakistani. They were led by Richard Lindsay, head of the Department of Pakistan, who used the visit to connect with the city’s 140,000 people of Pakistani heritage.
FCDO delegation met with various organizations such as Women’s Zone, Empowering Minds and QED Foundation. The BBC’s Bradford Aunties also met some of the women in a documentary about the loss of skills, culture and language across generational gaps.
Pakistan President Richard Lindsay:
This is a productive day where we can talk honestly and constructively about some of the challenges ahead, while celebrating the best in British-Pakistani relations.”
Discussions focused on human rights, security and the need for immediate economic reforms.
The visit follows the opening of the first UK-Pakistan Consultative Council on Monday, April 29, chaired by Lindsay. The advisory board brings together representatives from across the UK, with expertise in a range of sectors from education and business to women’s empowerment and climate change, to advise on how the UK can develop its partnership with Pakistan.
