TAUNSA SHARIF – At least seven policemen were injured when terrorists from a banned outfit attacked a check post in Townsa Sharif, Punjab, on Tuesday night.
A Punjab Police spokesperson said this was the second terrorist attack foiled by a police team in two months at the Jhangi check post.
According to details, around 20 terrorists armed with grenades, rocket launchers and laser light weapons attacked the checkpoint. A three-hour gun battle ensued when the police party repelled the attack.
He said the terrorists took advantage of the dark night to attack from different directions but retreated after running out of ammunition.
He said that the terrorists wanted to capture the police checkpoint and take the police officers posted there as prisoners, but the police team openly fought against them.
After receiving information about the terror attack, DG Khan reached the check post with army units of Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs).
Following the attack, the area was cordoned off and a manhunt was launched to nab the terrorists.
Seven injured policemen including ASI Imran Mohammad Amir, Asif Zain, Rehmatullah and Elite agents Tariq and Shahid Manzoor were taken to Townsa Sharif THQ Hospital for medical treatment.
From there, Shaheed Manzoor was shifted to Nishtar Hospital Multan due to his critical condition.
Punjab Police Chief Dr Usman Anwar praised the police for fighting terrorists. He said that the Punjab Police will not allow the terrorists to succeed in their trick.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz condemned the terrorist attack on the check post and ordered the best possible treatment for the injured security personnel.
