Islamabad: A severe heat wave is sweeping Pakistan with temperatures expected to reach 50 degrees in parts of Sindh, an Information Ministry spokesman said on Friday.
Speaking to a private news channel, he said that the plains of Punjab and Sindh are experiencing hot weather and big cities are also experiencing extreme heat.
Dadu and Mohenjodaro in Sindh are expected to be the hottest, with temperatures expected to reach 50°C, followed by Lahore at 42°C, Karachi at 34°C and Islamabad at 41°C.
He warned that the weather will remain hot and dry in other parts of the country, with rain expected over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar region, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
However, Karachi is expected to experience hot and humid weather, with sea breezes providing some relief throughout the day.
He said the city residents can expect some respite from the heat, but not for long, as the Office met the prediction of the third heat wave in June.
Meteorologists say the microwave effects of the heat wave will be felt more strongly in small towns and cities and urge people to take precautions everywhere.
The country is experiencing a second heat wave, the first of which occurred earlier this month.
The press office is asking people to stay indoors during the hottest days, wear loose clothing and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
As a heat wave grips the country, governments and citizens are urged to take the necessary measures to mitigate its effects and ensure everyone’s safety.
