Karachi: Pakistan’s star pacer Shaheen Afridi is likely to miss the first two T20Is of the upcoming five-match series against New Zealand at home.
According to sources, the decision to rest Shahini was taken as part of our team’s rotation policy ahead of this year’s T20 World Cup to manage the players’ workload.
Shaheen may be sidelined for the first match in Rawalpindi, but will feature in the final three matches of the series.
It should be noted that Shaheen was recently removed as the captain of the T20I side and was replaced by Babar Azam.
The PCB said the change was a “strategic move aimed at ensuring the welfare and maximum performance of the players”.
“Although Shaheen Afridi has led Pakistan’s fast attack for years and has proven himself as a star fast bowler, the board has recognized the importance of rotation and rest to maintain peak performance.
The New Zealand team gathered in Islamabad on Sunday, while the Pakistan team also gathered in the federal capital after Eid.
