Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi is set to make a big dent in The Hundred 2024, despite having to sit out this year’s edition due to family commitments.
Afridi, re-signed for the 2024 edition in the £100,000 category, took six wickets, the second most after representing the franchise in the 2023 edition.
Afridi will earn £5,000 from the tournament as all players signed for the tournament will receive five percent of their contract in exchange for rights. Players have the right to retain this part of the contract even if they withdraw from the tournament, so the Pakistani pacer will earn money.
The 24-year-old will not face any sanctions to leave the league and participate in the Global T20 League as he will be released for release next year.
However, his withdrawal has dealt a blow to the Welsh Fire because they lost one of their two places for £100,000 players, the second in the competition.
Shaheen Afridi is one of the seven Pakistani players who have signed up for the Canada Global T20 League, which will be played from July 25 to August 11.
Afridi decided to opt out of The Hundred 2024 as the Global T20 window is shorter and the left-hander will have more family time.
