RAWALPIDI: Awami Muslim League leader and former interior minister Sheikh Rashid has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating state of the country and its economy.
Speaking to the media outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, Rashid emphasized the seriousness of the situation, noting that he had shown leniency during his five-year tenure as minister and was now appealing to the establishment for a blanket amnesty.
Highlighting the recent arrest of PTI member Sanam Javed from the Bar, the former Home Minister condemned the police for disrespecting several persons.
He added: “It would be better if they gave us the two-year sentences we deserve to serve.”
Rashid also criticized the impending increase in electricity tariffs and warned that the country was on the brink of chaos, saying: “You want to create such chaos that it becomes unmanageable. That is not the job of politicians. The poor are suffering immensely. The country is heading towards a Kenya-like state .Conditions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are terrible, save your honor and country.
He further commented on the current administration’s inability to stabilize the economy and predicted that Nawaz Sharif would introduce a new narrative so that the public would be humiliated.
On the issue of Imran Khan’s release, Rashid said, “They keep saying he is coming but he is not coming. One grave and three bodies: Nawaz, Shehbaz; their fate will be decided soon. One flees east, the other west.”
Rashid concluded by praising the judiciary for their historic decision on reserved seats and acknowledged their significant role in saving the country.
“I praise the judiciary for their historic decision and their key role in saving the nation,” said Rašíd.
