ISLAMABAD: Weekly inflation, as measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), registered an increase of 0.30 percent for the combined consumption groups during the week ended August 8, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said on Friday.
According to PBS data, the SPI for the week under review in the above group was recorded at 322.54 points against 321.56 points during the previous week.
Compared to the corresponding week last year, the SPI for the combined consumption group saw an increase of 17.96 percent in the week under review.
Weekly SPI with base year 2015-16 =100 covers 17 urban centers and 51 core items for all expenditure groups.
The SPI for the lowest consumption group up to Rs 17,732 rose 0.46 percent to 310.83 points from last week’s 309.40 points.
SPI for lowest consumption groups Rs 17,732-22,888, Rs 22,889-29,517; Rs 29,518-44,175 and above Rs 44,175 rose by 0.40 per cent, 0.34 per cent, 0.32 per cent and 0.27 per cent, respectively.
During the week, out of 51 items, the prices of 23 (45.10%) items increased, 7 (13.72%) items decreased and 21 (41.18%) items remained stable.
Items that saw significant week-on-week decline in average prices included tomatoes (19.12%), bananas (1.55%), wheat flour (1.39%), chili powder (1.31%), pulses (0 .68%). %), sugar (0.44%) and bread (0.02%).
Commodities that saw a significant week-on-week increase in average prices included onions (32.23%), eggs (4.28%), garlic (3.23%), LPG (1.73%), georgette (1.32%) ), legumes. (0.97%), gram pulse (0.95%), moong pulse (0.83%), potato (0.70%), firewood (0.56%), chicken (0.52%) and cigarettes (0.09%).
Commodities that recorded declines included wheat flour (33.37%), tomatoes (18.09%), Q1 electricity charges (16.91%), cooking oil 5 liters (12.61%), chili powder (11.55%), vegetable ghee 2.5 kg (9.79%), vegetable ghee 1 kg (7.44%), mustard oil (5.91%), broken basmati rice (5.71% ), gasoline (1.20%), diesel (0.16%) and detergent (0.12%) . Commodities that experienced year-on-year average price increases included Q1 gas prices (570.00%), onions (142.48%), pulses gram (42.23%), pulses (29.62%) , garlic (28.93%). %), milk powder (27.68%), men’s sandals (25.01%), shirts (24.96%), beef (23.11%), salt powder (21.05%), pulses ( 18.68%), boiled daal (17.78%), energy saving (17.21%) and long cloth (16.64%).
