KHYBER: Six members of an immigration crew of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials were injured when a scuffle broke out between the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Frontier Corp (FC) soldiers over the clearing of Kabul-bound pedestrians here at the NADRA check post in Torkham on Sunday.
Due to the brawl, the border of Torkham was temporarily suspended for all types of movement.
A video, viral on social media, showed a number of FC soldiers dragging the FIA officials out of their office and started beating them severely.
According to an FIA official, they were involved in a routine immigration process at the Torkham pedestrian terminal when one of the FC soldiers forced them to clear an Afghan national bound for Afghanistan without legal travel documents.
After they refused, more than two dozen of them burst into the office and brutally beat them up, he added.
The six injured FIA officials were shifted to Landi Kotal General Hospital for medical treatment, from where two patients were sent to Peshawar Health Center in critical condition, a health official said.
The injured FIA officials were identified as Arif, Amjad, Zulfiqar, Harpal Singh, Ambar Shah and Mehmood.
According to a security official, the accident occurred due to the rush of passengers in the pedestrian terminal.
He added that there was a misunderstanding between the officials on duty of the two departments concerned, which resulted in a minor skirmish and few officials were slightly injured.
He added that a senior official of the FIA and FC noticed the incident, resolved it immediately and decided to take initiatives to prevent similar mishaps at the border in future.
