LOWER DIR: Speakers at a seminar held at Timergara have asked political leaders and area elders to ensure women participation in the next general elections. The Free and Fair Election Network (Fafen) Caravan Malakand division arranged the function at a local hotel inTimergara here on Thursday. The Fafen divisional programme officer Syed Jamal Shah was chief guest on the occasion. The nominated candidates of political parties and representatives of local government attended the seminar. Speaking on the occasion Mr Jamal Shah said that conduction of free and fair election was the need of the hour. He said that it was the responsibility of the election commission of Pakistan to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the country. He said that women constituted half of the total population and they had the right to vote. He asked the political parties, local leadership and area elders to end all barriers of banning women of their basic right to vote. He said the polls’ result would be declared null and void in constituencies where the ratio of women enfranchisement was not up to the mark.

The speakers also urged parties to avoid conflicts, tussles and hatred speeches during the electioneering and especially on polls’ day.
