Islamabad: Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Secretary Amer Ali Ahmad today welcomed a 12-member delegation from the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion (MSSI) Timor-Leste at BISP headquarters. The visit of the delegation, led by the Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion, Ms. Veronika Das Dores, focused on exploring ways of collaboration and BISP’s experience in social protection initiatives.
Highlighting BISP’s commitment to promoting social welfare, the BISP Secretary emphasized the importance of sharing experiences and best practices to address the challenges faced by vulnerable populations. The BISP secretary reiterated the organization’s focus on the Nashonuma program aimed at providing essential food and nutritional support to those in need.
DG NSER / CCT Naveed Akbar gave a comprehensive overview of BISP initiatives, particularly focusing on the National Socio-Economic Census Report (NSER), Kafaalat, Nashonuma and Taleemi Wazaif programmes.
Ms. Veronica Das Dores praised BISP for its effective program and expressed great interest in understanding the basics of BISP’s work, especially the NSER database. He said it was important to use BISP’s expertise to strengthen social protection mechanisms in Timor-Leste.
The Secretary of State assured BISP that technical assistance will be provided to facilitate the implementation of social protection programs in Timor-Leste and expressed commitment to develop bilateral cooperation.
The delegation consisted of prominent personalities such as Ms. Koko Ushiyama, Director and Representative of the World Food Program (WFP) Pakistan, and Ms. Alba Cecilia Garzon, WFP Representative in Timor-Leste, among others.
BISP Additional Secretary Dr Tahir Noor and all BISP General Managers represented BISP. The meeting ended with both parties expressing hope for future cooperation and increasing cooperation aimed at promoting social solidarity and integration efforts in their respective countries.
