ISLAMABAD: A day after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced $10 billion to reinvest in Pakistan, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar on Friday said that opponents of the government cannot rule out the new government’s “preferential visit” to create investment opportunities. in order to improve the economy.
“Wherever we go, we talk about investment and trade. We don’t talk about loans or grants,” he said at a press conference in Islamabad next to Commerce Minister Jam Kamal.
The minister’s remarks came a day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on a day-long visit to invite investment in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Tarar said that UAE does not need help from Pakistan.
In a press conference, Tarar spoke about the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), which was created to attract investment in the country.
Without naming parties or individuals, he criticized SIFC’s critics and called the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan to Pakistan and the GSP Plus campaign as putting the country at risk. to be global on the economic front.
“You have announced your red list to one person, our red list is SIFC,” said Tarar, saying the council was good.
He said SIFC was a joint effort of Prime Minister Shehbaz and Army General Asim Muneer to save the country from normalcy.
“SIFC is the lifeline of Pakistan. The government created an environment for foreign investors,” he said.
Tarar said that the UAE government has confidence in Islamabad as it has witnessed successive successes on the diplomatic front.
“The whole world is witnessing the seriousness of the government’s behavior,” the information minister said, adding that the world believes in Pakistan’s vast potential and resources.
‘The government is working to increase economic growth’
Meanwhile, Commerce Minister Kamal termed Prime Minister Shehbaz’s visit to the UAE as “historic” and said the government was working to boost economic growth and encourage foreign companies to invest in Pakistan.
He also said that Pakistan’s business community itself has an important role to play in improving the country’s economy.
Kamal said that Islamabad is preparing many projects that have been discussed for UAE investment.
