Swat Chamber Demands Cancellation of IPPs Agreement; Calls for National Protest

SWAT: Swat Chamber of Commerce and Industries demanded the government to eliminate the IPPs agreement against public interest. IPPs is a unique agreement in the world under which Pakistan pays in dollars even though it does not generate a single unit of electricity.
These views were expressed President of Swat Chamber of Commerce and Industries Rahat Ali Khan, Senior Vice President Bakht Karam Khan while holding a press conference at Swat Press Club in Mingora.
Zakir Muhammad, former district president Adnan Ali, Iqbal Khan and other officials of the chamber were also present on this occasion.
Rahat Ali Khan said that currently 40 IPPs companies are working in the country and under this agreement, the government of Pakistan pays billions of rupees to these IPPs companies every month without generating electricity and all this money is collected from the people of the country added, that last month, Ten billion rupees were given to a company for zero megawatt electricity, which is the end of abuse and cruelty to the people of the country.
They said that in the recent budget, 1700 billion rupees have been allocated for these companies, while only 1400 billion rupees have been allocated for the development projects of the entire country, which is proof of the incompetence and hypocrisy of the rulers.
They said that it is the common responsibility of all of us not to raise voice against these cruel agreements and people have to unite against these agreements.
They said that the government should immediately cancel all the anti-people agreements with the IPPs and renew the agreements in the larger interest of the people.
“Instead of these 40 companies of IPPs, the government should support 24 crore people.
Otherwise the Chamber of Commerce and the people will come out on the streets across the country.They clarified.
They further said that the government should also reform the electricity distribution companies so that the people can get rid of the line losses because Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is given 3000 megawatts of electricity instead of 5000 megawatts of electricity because more electricity is stolen and the stolen money is also collected from the public.Therefore, it is necessary to end these cruel contracts.
