SWAT: In a significant development, District Police Officer Shafiullah Khan Gandapur announced on Tuesday that the Swat police have successfully apprehended a major wanted motor vehicle and bicycle theft gang, resulting in the recovery of numerous stolen vehicles and a substantial amount of cash.
Addressing the press at the Swat Press Club, DPO Swat, accompanied by Additional SP Ghulam Sadiq Khan, SP Traffic Badshah Hazrat Khan, SDPO Saidu Sharif Habib Shah, SDPO City Amjad Ali, SHO Police Station Saidu Sharif Fazal Rahim Khan, and SHO Mingora Police Station Mujeeb Alam Khan, provided details of the operation.
According to DPO Swat, the arrest came after a report was filed by Roohullah, a resident of Chaidam Chakesar in Shangla district, regarding the theft of his Jeep Prado RZ on February 3, 2024, at Saidu Sharif police station. Acting on the directives of RPO Malakand Region Muhammad Ali Khan, a specialized team led by Additional SP Swat Ghulam Sadiq Khan and comprising SDPO Saidu Sharif Habib Shah, SDPO City Amjad Khan, and other officers was tasked with tracking down the culprits and recovering the stolen property.
Utilizing CCTV footage from the command-and-control centre and employing scientific investigation techniques, the police successfully traced the gang. They arrested the primary suspect, Asim Khan, who was found in possession of the stolen Jeep Prado RZ and a Suzuki pickup at his garage in Amankot.
Further interrogation from Asim Khan led to the identification and arrest of other members of the car theft gang.
The main accused, Inamullah, was identified as the mastermind behind the operation and was wanted by the police in connection with ten other cases. Additionally, Sajjad Ali, Fazal Subhan, and Dost Muhammad were apprehended, and cases have been registered against them as further investigations continue.
A significant haul of stolen goods was recovered from the gang, including one Prado jeep, five Suzuki pickups, fifteen motorcycles, two pistols, one LED screen, assorted vehicle parts, and 27 number plates of various vehicles. Furthermore, a cash amount of fifty thousand rupees was seized during the operation.
