ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) released a report here on Friday that states that during the first half of the current fiscal year (2023–24), Pakistan earned $8,283,261 million from textile product exports.
But from July to December of 2023–2024, the product’s exports decreased by 4.97 percent as opposed to the $8,716,437 million exported in the same period in 2022–2023.
Among the textile commodities with favorable trade growth were raw cotton, whose exports increased from $11.253 million to $53.412 million this year, a 374.66 percent increase.
Similar increases were seen in the exports of towels, which went from $492,529 million to $588,529 million this year, and cotton yarn, which went from $381,545 million to $588,529 million last year.
Cotton cloth saw a decline in exports of 13.10 percent, from $1,066.360 million to $926.677 million; cotton carded or combed saw a 27.33 percent decrease in exports, from $0.809 million to $0.588 million; yarn other than cotton yarn saw a 13.85 percent decrease in exports, from $22.708 million to $19.562 million; and knitwear saw a 10.65 percent decrease in exports, from $2,464.971 million to $2,202.529 million.
Similarly, the exports of ready-made clothing fell by 8.93 percent, from $1,832.835 million to $1,669.253 million; bed wear fell by 3.55 percent, from $1,427.730 million to $1,377.109 million; and tents, canvas, and tarpaulin fell by 1.45 percent, from $61.838 million to $60.941 million.
While the exports of all other textile materials fell by 3.37 percent, from $366.807 million to $345.428 million, the exports of art, silk, and synthetic textiles fell by 15.29 percent, from $209.225 million to $177.237 million, and the exports of made-up articles by 6.81 percent, from $378.660 million to $352.864 million.
In the meantime, year over year growth was 3.33 percent, with textile exports rising from $1,354.523 million in December 2022 to $1,399.655 million in December 2023.
