Today, July 11, 2024, marks the 29th commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide, the worst atrocity on European soil since the World War II in which over eight thousand mainly Bosniak Muslim men and boys were systematically murdered just in the town of Srebrenica simply because of their identity, close to one hundred thousand people were killed across the whole country, over two million and two hundred thousand people were displaced and over thirty thousand women were raped as part of the systematic campaign of ethnic cleansing and genocide.
On May 23, 2024, the United Nations General Assembly officially proclaim July 11 the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica. This United Nations resolution is further recognition of the victims and survivors and their pursuit of justice, truth and guarantees of non-recurrence.
The International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica is an occasion to remember innocent victims and to contribute to the promotion of human rights and foster the personal responsibility of citizens in democratic societies.
