Peshawar: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the country is passing through a critical phase and stressed the need for joint efforts of all sectors to improve the economy. Addressing a businessmen’s convention organized by JUI in Peshawar, he said that JUI is working with people from all walks of life and will work together to strengthen the national economy.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman emphasized that peace, a small word of three letters, encompasses all human rights. He asked how prosperity can be achieved when people deceive others in the name of Allah. He criticized the ongoing blame game and expressed concern over Pakistan’s deteriorating economy, suggesting that the representatives sitting in the assemblies were illegitimate and incapable of solving public problems.
He also criticized the tax system, calling it oppressive and questioning why the public should pay taxes when they did not believe the funds would be used for their benefit. He mentioned that taxes are inherited and the current leadership including Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif have recognized the challenge of the collapsing economy but it is considered intractable.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman concluded that excessive taxation of everything, except breathing and death, is not the answer and that politicians should understand and solve public problems in order to govern the country effectively.
