Pakistan is one of the two countries in the world where polio is present and it is causing the country to panic against which even the government’s campaign is not proving effective. Yesterday a special polio campaign has been launched across the country by the Prime Minister in which 30 million children will be vaccinating. From September 9 to 15, 0.2 million 86 thousand polio workers will participate in the special campaign.
On this occasion Shahbaz Sharif said that he is grateful to those who cooperated with the government to eliminate polio from Pakistan. The federal government will work with the provinces to eliminate the stigma of polio and in the coming months and years, polio will be eradicated from the country. The Prime Minister paid tribute to the efforts of all the federal and provincial officials, polio workers, security personnel, for anti-polio.
There is no doubt that campaigns are conducted several times every year for anti-polio throughout the country and with donor agencies efforts are also being made to raise awareness in the society regarding anti-polio but despite of this polio has not been eradicated.
Many reasons have been mentioned but the main reason is parents refusing to give polio vaccine to their children due to which other children also get this disease and this virus spreads across the country against which strict legal measures are needed but despite the government orders it is not being implemented.
Since the polio virus is transmitted from one person to another very quickly, the child in whom this virus is found and is not vaccinated it causes the transmission to other children. According to experts this virus is an infected person lives in a person’s throat and intestines. It enters the body through the mouth and can also be spread through a sneeze or cough.
Although the virus is usually spread through contact with the stool of an infected person the gas is released from the stomach. Also, even if a person get stool on his hands then he can get the polio virus.
The virus also gets on skin by touching your own mouth. Which contaminates everything along with you, even if you touch a toy or an object without washing your hands in the toilet and the toy or object is somehow left in your mouth then he will get polio.
The virus can spread quickly from one infected person to another and regular symptoms appear within 1 to 2 weeks. Viruses can live on an infected person’s face for weeks, no matter how often you wash your mouth. It can also contaminate food and water. A person infected with polio has the disease themselves which can transmit the virus to others and make them sick. Among the types of polio that have been discovered so far silent polio is common in children and in families where this disease is already present it is called silent polio.
It is present in the child’s esophagus but does not attack his digestive system and does not show symptoms. The attack of these abortive polioviruses is severe but physical defects other than the nervous system begin to develop. This type is found in the majority and can be found in children as young as 5 years old to people as old as 50 years old. Women may suffer more in this type. Thus in non-paralytic polio nervous weakness increases but despite that there is no permanent damage to the nervous system.
Paralytic polio, a variety of viruses can paralyze an infected person. In this the respiratory system is paralyzed. Therefore parents who do not vaccinate their children are jointly responsible for the spread of all types of polio diseases against which measures at the government level are very important.
