Doha: Chairman of Pakistan Red Cross Society Sardar Shaheed Ahmed Laghari visited Qatar Red Cross Society headquarters in Doha. Faisal Mohammed Al-Emadi, Secretary General of Qatar Red Cross Society (QRCS) and program manager welcomed him.
HHR Chairman Sardar Shaheed Ahmed Laghari held talks with senior officials of QRCS. Bilateral humanitarian relations and the current humanitarian situation in the region were discussed at the meeting.
The President spoke on this occasion and said c. He praised the determination of the Red Crescent Society of Qatar, which has been instrumental in their joint efforts to solve major crises in Pakistan. He highlighted the continuous and invaluable assistance provided by QRCS during the monsoon floods of 2022. With the support of Red Cross and Red Crescent partners, HHR reached millions of people affected by the floods and is currently working on recovery efforts for these communities.
QRCS Secretary General Faisal Mohammad Al-Emadi spoke about the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Qatar. He emphasized the deep history of the HHR and QRCS partnership spanning decades. Al-Emadi appreciated the exemplary service provided by HHR and thanked Chief Sardar Shaheed Ahmed Laghari for his leadership in promoting humanitarian initiatives. He also affirmed QRCS’s commitment to expand possible cooperation.
President Laghari said that Qatar wants the Red Crescent to open a delegation in Pakistan. He also extended an invitation to the QRCS President to visit Pakistan and HHR National Headquarters.
HHR and QRCS signed a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation in disaster response, youth participation, health and care, climate change and other humanitarian efforts. Both parties also signed an agreement on the 2024 Kurban (Sacrifice) project. The Alliance aims to strengthen cooperation in delivering effective humanitarian services to vulnerable communities.
The agreement was signed in the presence of QRCS Secretary General Faisal Muhammad Al Emadi and HHR Secretary General Muhammad Abaidullah Khan, HHR Chairman Sardar Shaheed Ahmed Laghari.
President Laghari and Secretary General Khan also toured the QRCS Disaster and Information Center, where Mr. Al-Emadi gave an overview of QRCS global projects and programs. The meeting was attended by key QRCS officials, including Subhi Fahid Ejjeh, Head of Relief and Disaster Management, Dr Muhammad Salah Ibrahim, Director of International Relief and Development, and Ayham Ismail Sohni, Head of Planning and Audit.
Mr. Al-Emadi briefed the HHR delegation on QRCS’s capacity building initiative, training staff for deployment in various countries to support other National Societies in disaster management, WASH services, health care and rescue operations.
The visit ended with an exchange of plaques and souvenirs between HHR and QRCS.
