It is our tragedy that a fraud against the nation does not even complete a year before another scandal comes to light. It has been the misfortune of the nation that some or the other scandals keep coming up in every political government. Sometimes the electricity scandal, sometimes the sugar scandal and now the wheat scandal has come to the fore.
The special thing about this scandal is that it has come to front during the caretaker government, on which citizen are protesting and it is alleged on social media. They are targeting the former caretaker prime minister Anwarul Haq Kakar and his cabinet. While the media has also reported that yesterday there was an alleged discussion between former Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar and Muslim League (N) leader Hanif Abbasi, which was later denied, but now the arrow has come out of the bow, so It should be investigated.
On the other hand the prime minister met Kamran Ali Afzal, the head of the wheat scandal committee and has directed him to submit the final report by Monday.
According to media reports, former Prime Minister and Muslim League (N) chief Nawaz Sharif has summoned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif after the wheat scandal came to light. It should be remembered that in the briefing given to the Prime Minister in this regard, it has been stated that there has been a loss of more than 300 billion due to the import of additional wheat under the organized plan.
Meanwhile, another wheat scandal has been revealed in the Tehreek-e-Insaaf government. According to the report of the Auditor General of Pakistan 2020, 2 lakh tons of wheat was sold to Pakistan Poultry Association at a lower rate than the market.
According to the report, the market rate of wheat in March 2019 was 39 thousand 79 rupees per ton, while the poultry association received 32 rupees per ton of wheat. 1,500 rupees i.e. 6,579 rupees per ton was sold cheaper. Despite the objections, the federal cabinet approved the import of 3 lakh tons of wheat, which the Prime Minister took notice of and directed a grand operation to deal with the flour crisis.
According to sources, wheat was sold to Pakistan Poultry Association at cheap prices by Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation and the approval was given by the Economic Coordination Committee in a meeting chaired by former Federal Finance Minister Asad Umar in 2018-19.
On which the Prime Minister directed the Head of the Wheat Scandal Investigation Committee to put forward the available records and documents in his report and formulate recommendations and clearly determine the persons responsible.
The issue of wheat import and various reports were reviewed. On the other hand, the leader of Muslim League (N) Nawaz Sharif has summoned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday regarding the wheat scandal, in which he must discuss the handling of this scandal.
The important thing is that the Prime Minister has acknowledged this scandal and has assured this will be investigated, if not then the investigation will come into question and it may become controversial because these days Tehreek-e-Insaaf feels anyway that false cases have been framed against them.
Therefore, it is necessary to complete the investigation of this scandal on a war footing first, which has taken place during the caretaker government that was formed by the coalition government.
If the federal government succeeds in punishing those responsible for this scandal, then no one will object to the investigation conducted by it against the former governments. Now it has to be seen how many more characters involved in this scandal come to light. In this context, it will not be wrong to say that this is a test case for the federal government.
