Oroville: Thousands of people were ordered to evacuate as wildfires raged in northern California, with “record-setting and dangerous” waves complicating firefighting efforts, US agencies said.
Located near the state capital, Sacramento, the city is only 14 miles from Paradise, a community devastated in 2018 by the deadliest fire in California history, which killed 85 people.
Butte County Fire Chief Garrett Sjolund said the area was on what he called a “red flag alert.”
“The fuel is very dense. The brush is dry, as you can see, any wind will quickly extinguish the fire.” More than 25,000 people in the area were ordered to evacuate Wednesday, local NBC affiliate KCRA reported.
