BRISBANE: Travis Head’s successful performance in the first Test against the West Indies has been overshadowed by a new challenge: he tested positive for COVID-19.
The explosive batsman, who won the Player of the Match award for his important century in Adelaide, could now face the prospect of playing in the forthcoming Brisbane Test under team isolation regulations.
Cricket Australia has informed that Head’s arrival in Brisbane will be delayed until Tuesday morning to give him more time to recover. The team, which is presently preparing for the day/night Test at the Gabba, will meet on Tuesday, with the primary training session slated for 5 p.m.
Head became unwell following the Adelaide Test, necessitating the COVID-19 test, which confirmed his positive status. Despite the setback, Head is still enthusiastic about joining the squad, and his delayed arrival is a cautious measure to ensure he tests negative before integration.
In the event that Travis Head tests positive again, he is anticipated to follow the isolation precautions demonstrated by colleague Matt Renshaw during last year’s SCG Test against South Africa.
