Atlanta: Donald Trump on Thursday accused Joe Biden of doing a “terrible job” on the US economy and presiding over a shocking rise in inflation, pointing out that rising prices and the cost of living have become key issues ahead of the November presidential election.
“He didn’t do a good job. He did a good job,” Trump said during a CNN interview with Biden in Atlanta, Georgia. “Inflation is killing our country. It’s really killing it.”
Biden said the US economy has turned a corner under his presidency, but more needs to be done to help the working class.
“When I become president, we have to look at what we have left behind.” “We have a slow falling economy. The pandemic was handled very badly, so many people died.”
In a recent poll by US-based Gallup, Americans named inflation, or the cost of living, “the most important financial problem facing their workforce” for the past three years.
Worryingly for Biden, 46 percent of US adults said they have “a lot” or “a fair amount” of confidence in Trump to do or recommend the right thing for the world’s largest economy, compared to just 38 percent of Gallup polls on him.
