PESHAWAR: A suicide bomber blew himself up on a motorcycle. Two people died in the explosion

A search operation is underway near the Boot Bazar

According to details, two people were killed while another sustained injuries in an explosion on Board Bazar road in Peshawar, police officials confirmed on Sunday morning.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kashif Aftab Abbasi said a bomb disposal unit (BDU) report revealed that it was not a suicide blast.

“An explosion occurred while transporting explosives. Three people were transporting explosives, two of them died in the explosion and one was injured,” he said.

The injured person, who is in a very critical condition, is being treated at the Khyber Teaching Hospital, spokesman Sajjad Khan said.

The bodies were also taken to the hospital.

Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials and rescue teams are also present to collect evidence. The incident is under investigation and police have cordoned off the area.

Board Bazar is a busy road in Peshawar where traffic is usually heavy. However, traffic was slow at the time of the explosion.

SSP Abbasi earlier said that explosives on a motorcycle were detonated in Nasir Bagh this morning.

“We have also found a mutilated body and our bomb disposal unit is investigating the area. We are trying to find out whether it was a suicide blast or a bomb was planted on a motorcycle,” he added.

The police prepared a preliminary report on the blast, according to which the dead and injured are terrorists and no civilians were injured.

The terrorists were identified and belonged to Peshawar, police said, adding that CTD was on the lookout for them.

They said mobile phones and other items were recovered from the gunmen.

According to the CTD report, three terrorists were heading towards their target with five kilograms of explosives.

One of the terrorists was identified as Salman, who was staying in Tehkal Bala area. The second terrorist was identified as Amir while the third who was injured was identified as Usman, the report said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the “terrorist attack” and offered condolences to the families.

He issued instructions to provide all possible medical assistance to the injured. He said he was determined to eradicate terrorism.

Meanwhile, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the incident and asked the Inspector General (IG) to submit a report.
