Heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson’s July 20 fight against YouTube sensation Jake Paul in Dallas will be a heavyweight title fight, announced Monday.
The fight will go over eight two-minute rounds and ultimately tie the record between Paul and Tyson, who lost their last official fight in 2005.
Tyson, 50-6 with 44 knockouts, hasn’t won a fight since beating Clifford Etienne in 2003.
There are concerns about sanctioning anything other than the event because of the age difference between the fighters. Paul is 27 years old. Tyson turned 58 on June 30.
“Mike Tyson wants this to be a one-sided fight. Netflix wants this fight to be. So I agreed to make it a fight. Loser takes it all,” Paul previously tweeted.
The game will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.
“Mike Tyson and Jake Paul signed to fight each other and the desire to do so in a professional fight allowed,” said the founder of the Most Valuable Stock Nakisa Bidarian in the X article.
After suffering a shocking loss to Buster Douglas in Tokyo in 1990, Tyson came back in 1996 to take the world crown without losing the title to Evander Holfield.
Tyson’s last world championship loss was in 2002 in Memphis by eighth round knockout to England’s Lennox Lewis.
Paul is 9-1 with six knockouts, his latest victory came in Puerto Rico last month when he stopped Ryan Bourland after 2:37 of the first round.
The American’s only loss was to England’s Tommy Fury in an eight-round split in Saudi Arabia in February 2023.
