Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) suspended flight operations to Dubai and Sharjah on Thursday as heavy rain lashed the United Arab Emirates (UAE) again.
In a statement, the national flag carrier said flight operations to Dubai and Sharjah were severely affected due to severe weather conditions.
“Flight operations of all airlines, including PIA, will be suspended until further orders,” he said.
UAE authorities have issued an orange warning for “unstable” weather conditions.
In the past few days, the Gulf state has been experiencing a wave of unstable weather which is expected to peak between today, May 2, tomorrow and May 3, Khaleej Times reported.
Safety advice has been given to the industry. Distance learning schools, companies allow employees to work from home. Parks and beaches are closed. Airports and airlines are also trying to make an impact.
Rain today in the UAE is expected to be heavier than the rain the country experienced earlier this month, prompting people to be cautious.
According to Gulf News, flights operated by UAE carriers – Emirates, Etihad Airways, flydubai and Air Arabia – have been affected by severe weather conditions, causing delays, cancellations and diversions.
Dubai’s flagship carrier Emirates has canceled flights to several destinations including Istanbul, Nairobi, Cairo, Amman, Singapore and Johannesburg.
