Karachi: Uber on Tuesday said it has decided to stop operating its ride-hailing app in Pakistan.
“We have decided to stop operating the Uber app in Pakistan,” an Uber spokesperson said.
Careem, our company, Careem app will provide ride services in Pakistan and provide opportunities for drivers.
In 2019, Uber bought rival Careem for $3.1 billion. The two companies said they will continue to operate their respective regional services and independent brands. It has decided to operate through Careem in five cities and Uber in Lahore.
In an email to users in Lahore today, Uber said it had taken the “difficult decision not to offer Uber app services in Lahore on April 30”.

“If you currently have an Uber Cash balance in your Uber Wallet, we will contact you in time to redeem your Uber Cash balance,” he said, adding that users were offered a 50 percent discount on five trips with Careem.
Users in Lahore who tried to access the app were greeted with the message: “Uber is not available in Lahore.” It also says that you can use Careem to get 50 percent off five trips with the code LHR50.
