British higher education leaders, along with British Council officials, visited COMSATS University (CUI) in Islamabad. These visits are aimed at establishing regular contacts with individuals and institutions and in collaboration with British universities.
The delegation visited Pakistan from April 21 to 27 under Pak-UK Education Gateway, a joint project of HEC and British Council. The visit was attended by representatives from the University of Glasgow, University of Salford, Cardiff University, University of London, Queen’s University of London, Staffordshire University, University of Exeter, INTO University and Bangor University. The group was also attended by senior officials from the UK Department for Work and Trade, Department for Education and Students and the British Council.
Rector CUI Prof. Sajid Qamar welcomed the delegates on behalf of COMSATS University and shared the history and English that contributed to the development of CUI as one of the leading educational institutions in Pakistan. In his welcome speech, Chancellor Professor Sajid Qamar said, “CUI has a long-standing relationship with universities in the UK. -language universities.” He thanked the Higher Education Chamber of Commerce for their cooperation in providing scholarships for CUI female students.
Dr. Hammad Omer, T.I., International Office, informed the delegates about CUI’s previous relationship with the UK. Former British Prime Minister Lord Cameron announced his visit to CUI in April 2011. About 20 cooperation agreements have been signed with British universities. More than 190 delegates from British higher education institutions visited CUI, and more than 110 CUI staff visited various research and development organizations and universities in England. One hundred and fifty (150) English language graduates are currently serving as lecturers, staff and staff in all CUI universities, further strengthening the relationship between our nations.
A Memorandum of Understanding on research collaboration was signed between the University of Glasgow and COMSATS University of Scotland. During the visit, the group discussed with teachers and students. The university also held a certificate award ceremony for CUI students who received Scottish scholarships. “We are delighted to be here and look forward to what we can do together,” said Professor Moira Boland, Higher Education Scotland Trade Representative and Dean for Global Engagement – Central and South Asia on behalf of the UK delegation. Are we creating mutual benefit between UK and Pakistan? “
Ms. Sarah Parvez, Head of Education, British Council Pakistan, announced that the British Council plans to launch the second phase of the Pak-UK Education Gateway project in May 2024 based on the latest directive from the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The project will promote collaboration between UK universities and Pakistani universities. This will help create opportunities for student, faculty and research collaboration.
