Geneva: The United Nations warned on Friday that war-torn Sudan has received only 12 percent of the $2.7 billion it is seeking and is “on the brink of starvation”.
“This appeal is catastrophically inadequate,” said Jens Laerke, spokesman for the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
“Without immediate resources, humanitarian organizations cannot prevent further starvation and deprivation.”
“In Sudan, half the population, 25 million people, need humanitarian aid. Hunger is stopped. Diseases are stopped. The war is over for the peaceful population, especially in Darfur.”
The United Nations has expressed concern over reports of heavy fighting in populated areas in recent days as the RSF took control of al-Fasher, the main town in the western Darfur region.
“Now is the chance to make good on the pledge of donors, go and help Sudan and change the current trajectory towards the edge of the cliff. Don’t miss the action.”
