Islamabad: Pakistan on Wednesday said that Resolution 901 passed by the US House of Representatives was neither constructive nor aimed at showing a misunderstanding of the political situation and the electoral process.
In response to media queries on Tuesday’s decision, Foreign Minister Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Buluch said that Pakistan has taken note of it.
“We believe that the timing and content of this decision is not in line with the positive dynamics of our bilateral relations and stems from a complete misunderstanding of the political situation and the electoral process in Pakistan,” he said.
The spokesperson said that as the world’s second largest parliamentary democracy and fifth largest democracy overall, Pakistan adheres to the values of constitutionalism, human rights and rule of law in line with its national interests.
The spokesperson said Pakistan believes in constructive dialogue and engagement based on mutual respect and understanding.
“Therefore, such a decision is not constructive or objective. We hope that the US Congress will support the strengthening of Pakistan-US relations and focus on ways of cooperation that benefit the nation and our country.”
