Washington: The US State Department has decided to continue working with Pakistan on counter-terrorism issues.
Deputy Press Secretary of the Department of State Vedant Patel said in a press conference in Washington that the United States has been in regular contact with Pakistani leaders on counterterrorism issues.
The spokesman’s statement came as he was responding to a question about the martyrdom of Pakistani soldiers operating on the Afghan border.
“We will continue to discuss regional security in detail, including through high-level relations, working levels and comprehensive bilateral consultations,” he said.
This question was asked after Pakistan Army’s intelligence operation against terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in which five brave soldiers were martyred.
In the first quarter of 2024, at least 92% of deaths and 86% of attacks related to terrorism and security forces operations were recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan provinces.
These key findings reveal that the country witnessed at least 432 violence-related deaths and 370 injuries among civilians, security personnel and illegal operations in the first quarter of 2024, released by the Center for Research and Security (CRSS). 245 terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations.
Patel also reiterated Washington’s “deep ties” with Islamabad on the country’s economy and security.
We will look for ways to continue to deepen cooperation, especially in the field of economy and security. “
The spokesman’s statement came after being questioned about the leak of assets in Dubai and the collapse of Pakistan’s economy due to Islamabad’s plan with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other means to raise funds to hedge against financial risks.
The question about Patel comes in the wake of a property leak in Dubai that saw several Pakistani businessmen and politicians appear on the list of property owners in the UAE’s largest capital.
