RAWALPINDI: Usman Khan, a member of Pakistan’s T20I squad for the series against New Zealand, has opened up about the challenges he faced during his cricket tour.
The 28-year-old moved to Sheikhupura before bidding farewell to Farookabad and settling in Karachi, where he believes his talent will be better known and his career will flourish.
“My brother played first-class cricket for Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and I followed. In the early part of my career, I lived in a difficult place and only played cricket,” Usman told PCB Digital.
Despite his efforts in Karachi and participation in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Usman found it difficult to meet his family’s financial needs. Eventually, he decided to move to Ajman in the UAE, where he could pursue business and cricket.
“While continuing to play cricket, I worked as a laborer at Ajman Gas. The owner’s support helped our team win many local tournaments,” he said.
Usman’s breakthrough came in the 2022 edition of the T10 league, where he gained recognition as a local player and advanced his career. His performance caught the attention of Andy Flower, who led him to join Multan Sultans as a local player for the 2023 PSL season.
However, Usman recently decided to pursue his desire to represent Pakistan, resulting in the termination of his contract with the ECB and a five-year ban from cricket in the UAE.
