Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has criticized Pakistan selector Wahab Riaz and accused him of bias which is harming Pakistan cricket.
Sehwag’s comments came after Mohammad Amir returned from retirement to see him feature in Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign. This performance led to widespread criticism from fans and former players, led by Riaz and team captain Babar Azam, and concerns over the team’s fitness and player selection.
Sehwag showed jokes to Riaz and Amir, who criticized the Pakistan team on the same TV channel.
“Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir, these are the two names who criticize and comment on the Pakistan team on TV… Today one of them is the selector (Riaz) and one is the eleven player (Amir),” Sehwag said.
“So the people who criticize, if they have power now, they are voters, what do they do first?” Mohammad Amir and I, let’s pick him ‘If Ajit Agarkar was the head (BCCI selection committee chairman) today he would have said ‘here comes Viru, come Zach (Zaher Khan)’, I will help you come back,” Sehwag said. .
Sehwag urged the Pakistani selectors to stay focused on the team’s future by taking necessary decisions.
“You are a voter, you have to look to the future. You have a job, use it wisely, don’t be charitable. This is a tough step that voters have to take,” he said.
