Gilgit: WAPDA announced an important package for workers working with contractors on Diamer Bhasha Dam project. According to the spokesperson for the Diamer Bhasha Dam Project, WAPDA has approved a policy to provide financial assistance to the survivors of all workers and laborers working with the contractors of Diamer Bhasha Dam Project. According to the policy, in case of death in any accident or incident, WAPDA will provide financial assistance of five lakh rupees to the next of kin.
Workers seriously injured in an accident at the dam site or during work will be given Rs 2 lakh 50 thousand per person. General Manager/Project Director Engineer Nazakat Hussain has sent the summary of financial assistance to WAPDA Authority for approval to the WAPDA Authority under the chairmanship of WAPDA Engineer Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (retd) for approval. Official approval has been given by WAPDA authority. It should be noted that this financial assistance is separate from the respective contractor’s insurance policy.

In case of death or injury to any workman in any untoward incident, full financial assistance is provided by the concerned contractor or company as per the policy. After the martyrdom of 3 workers in an unfortunate incident at the dam site on April 7 last year, Chairman WAPDA Engineer Lt. Gen. Sajjad Ghani (retired) announced to provide financial assistance to the families of the martyrs during his visit to the dam site and offered cash to the injured in the incident.
