ISLAMABAD – The National Football Call-up Cup 2023-24 has come to a thrilling conclusion after twelve days of intense football action at the Jinnah Stadium.
In the final, WAPDA beat SA Kebon star-studded 1-0 to successfully defend the main trophy. A crucial goal came early in the match when WAPDA’s M. Yousuf Ahmed found the back of the net in the 17th minute after a volley from Shaik Dost. SA Gardens battled relentlessly, with Murtaza Hussain coming close to equalizing with a volley that narrowly missed the target in the dying moments of the game.
The victory marked WAPDA’s National Challenge Cup title, which it will win in 2020 and cemented its status as a dominant force in national football.
Chairman of the Normalization Committee Harun Malik addressed the final meeting as the chief guest and distributed medals and trophies to the participants. WAPDA captain Rao Umer Hayat was adjudged the best player of the tournament while SA Gardens goalkeeper Salman ul Haq ‘Kaka’ was adjudged the best goalkeeper. WAPDA’s Shaikh Dost was awarded as the best wicket-taker, while HEC was awarded the Fair Play trophy for his performance throughout the tournament.
