LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has decided to share his duties with the team’s former head coach Waqar Younis as he will continue to focus on administrative matters, sources said.
Naqvi, who also works as the interior minister, will hand over cricket affairs to Younis as he believes that a cricketer should be responsible for matters related to the game.
Decisions regarding international, domestic cricket, selection committee and No Objection Certificates (NOC) of players will be overseen by Younis.
Naqvi’s primary focus will be to look after the administrative affairs of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan will host between February and March next year.
According to the PCB Constitution 2014, the chairman of the board has the power to delegate his authority to someone and thus Younis will be given the power to take all decisions related to the team.
Earlier this month, Naqvi met with more than two dozen former and current cricketers from Pakistan to discuss the future of cricket in the country.
Assuring the implementation of the proposals in the meeting, Naqvi said that five or six things mentioned by the cricketers in the meeting would be implemented.
On the suggestion of Yasir Hameed, a former Test cricketer, the PCB chief said that cricket academies would be built in Islamabad and Peshawar. The level of land will also improve.
He said that four-day cricket will be given top priority, coaches will be given more education and qualified coaches will be hired.
Mohsin Naqvi said that there will be five domestic teams and there will be five mentors in addition to their coaches.
