KINGSTOWN: Sri Lanka and Nepal arrived in Lauderhill looking for their first win and hoping to chase the T20 World Cup 2024. However, steady rain, which could trigger flash flood warnings for locals, divided both groups by one point. That said, Sri Lanka’s elimination from the Super Eight competition, and Nepal’s chances of qualifying, is a huge hit. South Africa, currently in Group D, have qualified for the Super Eight.
Sri Lanka now have to play Bangladesh vs the Netherlands in Kingstown on June 13 and then beat the Netherlands in the final group game on June 16 to qualify. Huge margin on June 14 and then Nepal beat Bangladesh by a narrow margin on June 16.
Nepal can still qualify if they manage big wins against South Africa and Bangladesh in their last two matches and the Netherlands fail to win their remaining two matches.
However, the Lauderhill weather put the next few games under the scanner. Three Group A matches – USA vs Ireland on June 14, Canada vs India on June 15 and Ireland vs Pakistan on June 16 – will be rained out throughout the week.
