Islamabad: 7th Polio Campaign begins in Rawalpindi with a target population of 7,86,000.Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engr. Amir Khattak started a polio campaign by giving vaccination shots to young children. A special week-long polio vaccination campaign is underway across the country.
During the campaign, children under the age of five will be given polio vaccination drops. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched a campaign to completely eradicate polio from the country at a ceremony in Islamabad.
He launched a campaign in 115 districts to vaccinate 30 million children against the debilitating disease. As part of the anti-polio drive, about 286,000 workers who contract polio will go door-to-door to administer polio drops to children.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister expressed the hope that the federal government, in collaboration with provincial governments and partners, would succeed in completely eradicating polio from the country. He called on parents to ensure that their children under the age of five receive polio drops to protect them from life-long disability.
