Wheat scandal: PM okays action against 4 officers for ‘poor planning’

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday approved the plan against the responsible officials.
Government decided to suspend four officials of the Ministry of National Food Security, no action was taken against the supervisor or its key officials.
It may be noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz last year set up an inquiry committee headed by Cabinet Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal to investigate the import of wheat despite the “bumper harvest” that incapacitated the governments of Balutistan and Punjab. buy crops from farmers.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Afzal had ordered Afzal to fix responsibility and inform those responsible for the scandal and ordered the cabinet to prepare recommendations with available records and documents.
So far, surplus securities have been approved by the government led by former Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar to import wheat worth $225.783 billion until February 2024.
Kakar, however, denied the claim, claiming that only 3.4 million tons of the plant in question was imported; the deficit was four million meters.
Ministry of National Food Security informed Prime Minister Shehbaz’s cabinet that 28.18 million tonnes of wheat was produced last year and the caretaker government decided to import 2.45 million tonnes more.
The government, according to details, has bowed to take appropriate action against the former federal secretary for national food security Muhammad Asif – a grade 21 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service who earlier formed the OSD.
Meanwhile, among the officials who resigned are former Director General of Crop Protection AD Abid, Food Safety Commissioner I Dr Wasim and Director Sohail and Director Food Safety Punjab Imtiaz Gopang.
