WASHINGTON: In remarks made on Monday in a Truth Social post, Donald Trump announced that he would be attending an appeals court hearing on the parameters of his presidential immunity in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.
“Of course I was entitled, as President of the United States and Commander in Chief, to Immunity,” Trump wrote in the tweet.
The leading candidate for the Republican presidential candidacy in 2024, Donald Trump, has been charged by prosecutors with trying to use plans to thwart Democratic President Joe Biden’s election victory in 2020 in order to obstruct Congress and defraud the US government.
Trump has claimed that the case ought to be dropped because previous presidents are exempt from prosecution for actions connected to their official duties.

Following the denial of that claim by US District Judge Tanya Chutkan on December 1, Trump filed an appeal with the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Trump’s trial was scheduled for March, but it was postponed due to his appeal.
In an order to enable a lower court to continue considering the matter, the US Supreme Court last month declined to rule on former President Donald Trump’s request that he not be charged for attempting to overturn his loss in the 2020 election.
