Pakistan cricket team in the 2024 World Cup because they failed to qualify for the Super 8 round.
Babar Azam and Co. lost two of their three group games against USA and India, but then won against Canada.
To qualify for the Super 8 round, Pakistan needed the United States to beat Ireland in their match on June 14, but the match was delayed due to a wet pitch and eventually canceled altogether due to rain.
If the US has managed to beat Ireland, Pakistan will have to win, hope dashed.
Former cricketers came forward to analyze and comment on Pakistan’s disqualification from the 2024 T20 World Cup, including former captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who believes Pakistan should have won one of the first two matches.
“It can happen to any team, but the biggest disappointment is that the two games (against USA and India) went to Pakistan. We made a mistake in the first game, it’s not good, you make a mistake in a game, but we have to fix it so we don’t repeat it again that mistake,” said the former captain in an interview on a sports channel.
Misbah admitted that it was easy to win against India because it was a one-wicket game and beating them would be a big achievement for Pakistan.
“In the next match (against India), we have a good chance to cover all the mistakes we made against Canada. It is also a good chance to face one of the best teams, India. The match has everything and a win against India will be a great achievement big and this team is doing it (in the 2021 T20 World Cup),” he said.
The former captain said that mistakes are a part of the game, but repeating those mistakes and then other factors leads to losing the game.
“But then we played some disappointing cricket which we didn’t expect from us. It’s normal to make mistakes and not making mistakes again and again is part of the game, when you have a chance to run the ball and you have a wicket in hand but you still lose, it doesn’t make sense to say this and that or rain,” said Misbah.
“We lost the first two games and had a hard time for ourselves. “Whatever, we have to win at least one,” he said.
Pakistan have one more match against Ireland in the Florida rain on June 16 before the team leaves for home.
