NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: A woman was severely tortured by her father and uncle when they left her with broken legs to seek Khula (separation) from her husband in Naushahro Feroze district of Sindh.
The incident took place in Mehran Colony, where the victim, named Sobia Shah, was living with her mother after she sought separation due to domestic issues.
Angered by her decision, the suspects attacked her with axes on July 24, a day before she was due to appear in court to hear the case.
They left her badly injured and fled the scene. The woman was taken to Nawabshah Hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
The police have registered a case against the suspects while her father Ghulam Mustafa and uncle Qurban Shah. They said raids were being carried out to arrest other suspects.
In her complaint, Sobia said she married her maternal cousin eight years ago, adding that he was a narrow-minded person and abused her by failing to take care of her and the child.
“I even complained about his behavior to my husband’s parents, but they did not listen to her complaints.
After the situation became unbearable, she asked her husband to divorce her or she would move the khula court.
She later escaped from an abusive marriage and went to her mother’s house.
“I lived there for eight months, but my husband did not contact us, which prompted me to apply for Khula.
The decision enraged the Sobios, who called it an insult to the family. When she refused to withdraw her Khula case, they attacked her with axes.
It is said that a weak case has been registered against the suspects as they can easily get bail. On the other hand, SSP Saddam Khaskheli said that more sections could be added to the FIR in the light of the medical reports.
