Islamabad: Early detection and awareness campaigns through media platforms can play an important role in tackling women-only ‘ovarian disease’ (a silent killer), health experts said on Wednesday. In an interview with PTV news channel, senior gynecologist Professor Dr Syeda Batul spoke about the disease, its symptoms, risk factors and the importance of skin in relation to World Ovulation Day, which is celebrated on May 8 every year.
Today, he emphasizes that we can recognize various factors that can increase the risk of ovarian cancer.
In response to a question, he said that pregnancy and breastfeeding slightly reduce the risk of ovarian cancer, and that preventive strategies such as genetic testing, regular check-ups and preventive surgery can also reduce the burden, he said.
She asked health workers, along with husbands, mothers-in-law and employers, to play an important role in promoting breastfeeding.
To another question, he said the risk of ovarian cancer increases with age and women over 50 are at greater risk. In an age-respecting society, awareness of age-related risk factors is essential.
