Islamabad: Secretary of the Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC), Dr. Shahida Rehmani, led a pivotal working council meeting focused on advancing women’s rights and welfare nationwide. - Central Jail Visits: The council approved a plan to visit central jails to evaluate the conditions and treatment of female inmates, ensuring their rights and rehabilitation needs are met.
- Beautification of the Capital: Efforts to enhance the aesthetics of the capital city, including the parliament’s exterior, were discussed for implementation on September 6th.
- Provincial Caucus Engagement: The council resolved to visit provincial caucuses to foster intergovernmental collaboration and invite Provincial Women’s Parliamentary Caucus members to the capital for comprehensive discussions.
- Review of Existing Bills: A commitment was made to review and amend current legislation affecting women to better address contemporary needs and challenges.
- National Helpline System: The development of a national helpline system specifically for women was deliberated, aimed at providing immediate support and resources in crises.
- Prevention Through Legislation and Awareness: Emphasis was placed on strengthening legal frameworks and launching awareness campaigns to combat gender-based violence and discrimination.
