International Women’s Day was celebrated at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) here on Monday with the vision ‘She Leads, She Succeeds’.
The event was organized by the PMAS-AAUR Faculty of Agriculture in collaboration with Mobilink Bank with the aim of emphasizing the importance of women’s empowerment for the betterment of the family and society.
Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza (T.I.), Member, Research, Development and Innovation Commission, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan was the Chief Guest while Ms. Alveena Tahir of Mobilink Bank was the Guest of Honour. A large number of female teachers and students participated in the event.
Prof Dr. In his speech, Bushra Mirza emphasized the key role of education for the upliftment of society, especially women. She advised the female students to enhance their skills and ability to compete the challenges and play an equal role in the development of the country. She lauded PMAS-AAUR for organizing the International Women’s Day event in the campus.
Ms. Alveena Tahir, guest of honor from Mobilink Bank, ensured full support to female students at PMAS-AAUR, including setting up a Center of Excellence. She also emphasized the rights of women and their work for the country and society.
Ms. Anjum Asad Amin in her inspirational speech shared her success story in organic farming illustrating the transformative impact of entrepreneurship on agriculture, market and women development centers in Upper Punjab.
Ms. Khola, a representative of Mobilink Bank, outlined the bank’s commitment to support women by providing easy loans to start small businesses.
A walk was also held to raise awareness about women’s rights, during which participants and visitors viewed various stalls run by female students. The program was concluded by handing over shields to the guests and certificates to the organizing faculty members.,
Dr. Tariq Mukhtar, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, PMAS-AAUR, inaugurated the Center of Excellence for Women in Agriculture, a joint initiative of Mobilink Bank and PMAS-AAUR. He appreciated the efforts of Mobilink and expressed optimism that the center would pave the way for better research opportunities in the future.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed between Mobilink Bank and PMAS-AAUR for joint research and development activities within the university.
