YINCHUAN: Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow Watershed during a research visit to the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in northwest China.
Xi, secretary general of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission, arrived in Ningxia on Wednesday after completing a tour of Qinghai province.
Located in the Yellow River Basin, Ningxia is surrounded by desert on three sides and faces the challenge of preserving and restoring the ecosystem.
Xi asked Ningxia to coordinate high-quality development and environmental protection, further reform and opening up, promote new urbanization and rural development, and promote ethnic harmony and general prosperity.
The autonomous region has a small minority population. On Wednesday afternoon, Xi visited a multi-ethnic residential area in the regional capital, Incheon. Of the community’s more than 18,000 residents, 38 percent belong to ethnic minority groups including Hui, Manchu, Mongolian and Tibetan.
Xi first went to the community service center and activity room, where he watched and talked with residents doing paper cutting and dancing. He called for detailed, detailed and concrete efforts to address the urgent needs and concerns of citizens and provide quality services to the public.
Later, Xi Xi visited the home of Zhao Shuchen, a resident, and talked with the Zhao family to learn more about their work, income, medical insurance, and children’s education. “I am concerned about the welfare of families of all ethnic groups,” said Si Zhao, wishing the family the best.
At the community square, Xi addressed residents who had gathered to welcome him. Xi said he was happy to visit Ningxia again and meet local people from different ethnic groups.
“The Chinese people are one big family,” he said, calling on the Chinese people to develop a strong sense of community and gather strength from all sectors to push China’s modernization.
On Thursday morning, Xi was briefed by the Ningxia CPG Regional Committee and the local government and acknowledged the achievement.
Noting that Ningxia has unique geographical conditions and resources, Xi said the region should follow a unique and different development path.
Xi said Ningxia should develop modern coal chemistry and new materials industry, clean energy industry such as wind, photovoltaic and hydrogen power, as well as special wine and goji fruit industry.
He called for greater efforts to integrate scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation and develop new productive forces taking into account local conditions.
Xi said Ningxia should deepen the reform of state-owned capital and businesses, facilitate the development of the private sector and improve the business environment.
Xi called on the region to actively participate in the “Belt and Road” cooperation and the construction of the New International Dry Sea Trade Corridor, and develop trade and economic cooperation with Arab countries.
Ningxia should adopt the strictest management system for water resources and strive to protect the ecosystem along the banks of the Yellow River, Xi said.
The Yellow River, the second longest river in China, is considered the “mother river” of the country. Originating from the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, it flows through the Loess Plateau for about 5,464 km through Nessia and eight other provincial-level areas.
Xi called for joint efforts to achieve the common welfare of all ethnic groups and strong measures to provide job opportunities for college graduates, migrant workers and veterans.
Promote integrated urban and rural development and promote rural development on the board.
Xi also emphasized the need to manage ethnic affairs according to law and build an ethnically integrated society.
