Islamabad: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Executive Committee Vice Chairman Senator Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani was on Tuesday elected as non-elected chairman after no nomination papers were filed against his candidature by the opposition.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Syedal Khan Nasar was also elected as the Deputy Chairman of the Senate.
The two joint candidates of the fatwa coalition, while the Sunni Tehreek/Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf boycotted the election due to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) senate seat and protested against the election, citing the provisions of the law. It is up to the CP members to admit that the DPR is incomplete.
Senator Ishaq Dar announced Senator Yusuf Raza Gillani as the Speaker of the Senate who was in the middle of the gallery. Senator Gillani was brought by the President to take the oath of office of Senate President.
Chief Ishaq Dar was sworn in by the unelected Senate Chief.
After assuming office, Senate President Yusuf Raza Gillani made his first speech to the House and congratulated the senators on Eid al-Adha. He then announced his candidacy for the Deputy Speaker of the Senate and said, “Senator Syedal Khan Nasar was nominated by Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar and Sherry Rehman and since the candidacy was correct and one candidate was nominated, Syedal Nasar was declared as the Deputy. Speaker of the Senate.”
He took him to his uncle’s office to be sworn in as Vice President of the Senate.
The chairman announces the decision of independent members to join the treasury or the opposition within seven days from today until April 15, and the secretary submits the application in writing to the senate. However, independent members of no confidence will be prohibited from supporting opposition legislative resolutions.
He left the session while reading the order sent by the President. However, prayers were offered for the martyrs of the security forces led by Senator Maulana Atta ur Rehman in various terrorist attacks.
Speaker Yshaq Dar addressed the Senate on behalf of the House of Representatives as he delivered a vote of thanks. He also assured the Chairman of full support and confidence in all legislative activities.
Maulana Atta ur Rehman congratulated the newly elected president and asked him to focus on the issue of non-election of senate seats in KP.
