What we may expect to see each year at the tech extravaganza known as CES in Las Vegas is somewhat predictable. Big TVs? Check. Never-to-be-sold home robots? Check. An excessively elaborate toothbrush? Check.
Along with its signature trends, CES also brings its own unique vibe to the show floor, the large, ostentatious press briefings, and the late-night conversations at casino bars.
Several of the most prominent themes at CES 2024 this week were predictable; a significant focus on artificial intelligence, for instance. Others, like clear displays and innovative ways to disconnect your home from the grid, were only apparent after we had thoroughly examined the exhibit halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Here are our major takeaways from everything CNET’s editors have seen, tried, and played with. You have about the same probability of winning at the slot machines as you do of finding a company at CES 2024 that does not boast of its AI capabilities.
This is not the first time AI-powered goods have been seen among the booths, but this is the year that AI fully dominates the show.

What we’re seeing right now is the incorporation of big AI discoveries from the last year or two, like as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, into devices. “There’s no doubt that AI, particularly generative AI, will be a major driver of new products and services,” says CNET’s AI expert Connie Guglielmo.
Guglielmo used Microsoft’s choice to modify the Windows keyboard for the first time in nearly 30 years as an example, adding a button that provides a direct link to launch its AI Copilot.
Another example is Volkswagen, which will include ChatGPT as a standard function in its vehicles later this year. “You can literally talk your car in a Knight Rider kind of way,” she said.
