LAHORE: The water level of river Chenab has started rising in Trimm, prompting residents living on the banks of the rivers to evacuate to safer places with their belongings and livestock.
Local rescue teams have also been put on high alert as floodwaters approach the city’s protective embankment.
The rise in water levels is due to recent flooding and authorities expect a major flood to pass Trimmu in the next 24 hours. As the floodwaters are beginning to reach nearby settlements, the district administration has already issued a warning to residents living in vulnerable areas along the river.
In response to the escalating situation, a flood alert was declared and all relevant police officers were instructed to remain in place to deal with the emergency. The Deputy Commissioner assured that all necessary measures have been taken to deal with the potential flood crisis and protect the affected municipalities.
The situation remains critical as the city braces for flood waters, with rescue operations and emergency response teams on standby to help those in need.
