MONACO: Anthony Martial has confirmed he will leave Manchester United when his contract expires this summer.
The 28-year-old became world football’s most expensive teenager nine years ago when he joined the club from Monaco in 2015 for €36 million.
The striker, who has made 317 appearances for United and scored 90 goals for the club, will officially leave Old Trafford on July 1 when his contract expires.
In an emotional Instagram post, Martial thanked his fans and team for the wonderful moment.
“After nine great years at the club, it’s time to start a new chapter in my career,” he said.
“Your passion and dedication always motivates me.
“I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done for me. Your songs, encouragement and love for the club will always be in my heart,” he said.
Although he has had some good seasons with the club, Martial has been plagued by injury problems in particular over the past few years. In his final season with the team, he made just seven starts and scored two goals before his season was cut short in December due to a groin injury.
With the departure of Raphael Varane, he becomes the second player to leave United this summer.
The striker scored 30 times, twice for France.
